CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

I spot Kenna heading out of the changing rooms just as I’m heading in. She’s still in a robe and full makeup, but her hair is a mess. She must be on her way to Sally to get it touched up.

“Hey, Kenna.”

She jumps when I greet her, even though I know she saw me. Did she think I was just going to walk past her and ignore her? Silly girl.

“Oh, hi, Lollie.”

“Listen, I have to go find Icarus, but I was wondering if you wanted to hang out at my place tonight?”

“I, um, I don’t know.” She laughs nervously.

“Oh, please come. I need some time away from all the flying penises around here. We can order pizza, drink some wine, and watch a movie.” I put my hands together as if praying until she reluctantly caves.

“Okay sure. Um…where do you live?”

“I’ll text you the address and meet you there. Say seven-ish?”

“Sure.”

“Wear something comfy. Hell, I’ll be in my PJs.”

She smiles, then. It’s small but genuine.

“Okay, Lollie. And thank you. Do you want me to bring anything?”

“Nope, just bring you and your appetite.”

She nods again. “I’ve gotta go to hair and makeup now, but I’ll see you later?”

“Absolutely. I can’t wait.”

I watch her walk away as Icarus, who was standing just out of her sight, steps around the corner.

“So that’s Kenna, huh?”

“That’s her,” I confirm, watching until she disappears.

I turn, look up at Icarus, and face-plant against his chest.

“Hey, what’s all this?” He wraps his arms around me and holds me tight.

“It’s just been a really long day.”

“Take her home.”

I whirl at the sound of Talon’s voice and protest. But he lifts his hand to silence me.

“We’re a little behind schedule anyway. I need to reshoot a couple of things, so I don’t need either of you until tomorrow. Go home and relax.”

“You’re sure?” Icarus double-checks, taking in Talon’s body language. He looks exhausted.

“Yeah.”

“I have a better idea. Why don’t I call David and the others, who are all around here somewhere, and they can take me home, and Icarus can stay with you? Call me crazy, but I’d rather you have someone here with you who I know will have your back.”

Talon looks ready to protest, but Icarus gives me a squeeze, letting me know he’s got this.

“To be honest, you’ll be doing me a favor. Lollie here is having a girl’s night with Kenna. I need to make myself scarce so I don’t spook her. I’ll even go out and grab us some tacos.”

Talon nods, his shoulders relaxing a fraction.

“You know what? Tacos sound good. Stay with Lollie until David gets her, and I’ll meet you in the production room. Just call me if I’m not there for some reason.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll find you. Go do whatever it is you do.”

Talon leans forward and presses a kiss to my temple. “Be good.”

“I’m always good.”

He huffs. “The name’s Talon, not gullible,” he calls out as he walks away.

“Tell me what has you so stressed.”

I sigh and lean into Icarus. “Someone was almost raped on set today.
